Only in the Keys: Underwater Easter Egg Hunt

Island Life in the Florida Keys is never boring. As one of the worlds largest tourist destinations and containing the worlds largest concentration of shipwrecks, small businesses must get creative when it comes to drawing in clients. The Underwater Music Festival is one such event that draws divers and snorkeled to this very colorful fun event.

This Easter weekend the folks in Key Largo came up with an interesting event - an underwater Easter egg hunt! How cool is that? Appealing to "egg-splorers", the 12th annual Underwater Easter Egg Hunt will happen Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, in the clear waters off Key Largo. This popular annual fund raiser is for Kids In Special Situations and provides gifts and holiday cheer to the area's needy children.

Dressed in a giant bunny suit and dive gear, Captain Spencer Slate of Atlantis Dive Center will hide real eggs brightly colored with non-toxic paint on a shallow coral reef off Key Largo.

Check in time for divers and snorkeled is 8 am at the Atlantis Dive Center located at mile marker 106.5 oceanside. You will board a charter boat at 8:30 am and be taken out to the reef for the Easter egg hunt. Participants in the underwater game of hide and seek are awarded prizes, including a particularly valuable goodie basket for the fortunate finder of a "Golden Egg".

The cost for this fun charter is $85 per certified diver, including tanks and weights, $30 per adult snorkeler and $20 per child including gear. Up to three boats are scheduled to depart Atlantis at 8:30 am to accommodate all "egg-splorers". The boats will head to a secret shallow reef for a two-tank trip. Book your spot early, this event fills up fast.
